And though it was his fourth trip up to the podium to accept an Emmy for his work on the CBS hit sitcom, Parsons acknowledged someone in his acceptance speech that he had never thanked before.

He never discouraged me to be an actor, and in a career that hinges so much on confidence a lot of the time, that was a really great gift."
